SpinDrive – Pioneer in Active Magnetic Bearing Technology
SpinDrive is a Lappeenranta-based, start-up cleantech company specializing in active magnetic bearing (AMB) systems for industrial rotating machinery. Their technology enables completely contactless operation without lubrication, significantly improving energy efficiency, reducing maintenance needs, and allowing higher rotational speeds in demanding applications. SpinDrive’s solutions are particularly well suited for turbomachinery, such as compressors and energy systems, where reliability and performance are critical.
Mertala’s Role in the Projects
Mertala Innovations has participated in several projects involving the implementation of active magnetic bearing systems into existing turbomachinery, replacing conventional bearing solutions for SpinDrive’s customers. The machines have ranged from 100 to 1+ MW and include applications such as compressors, waste heat recovery power systems, and CO₂ companders. Our role has focused on mechanical design support, manufacturing drawings, and selected structural analysis, ensuring reliable integration, manufacturability, and overall system performance.
